Date My Friend™ FAQs
• Is DMF free?
Yep! Free to download and use. Now go meet people, matchmake for friends and have fun!
• Is it available on iOS and Android?
• Is DMF mobile only?
Yes, right now our website is for information and assistance. We may build a web version one day if users are asking for it.
• Do I have to register using Facebook?
No, you don’t have to register with Facebook. We give users the option to register via an email address or their Facebook account, your choice.
• Do I have to have a friend on DMF to date, or to use the app as a dater?
Yes, every dater needs at least one friend, as it’s the friend (aka Wingman) who has the first conversation with the other side.
• I don’t have any single friends, can I still join DMF as a wingman?
Yes, you can join, however without a friend to rep, you won’t have access to the field. We do this to prevent lookie-loos from joining. DMF is about friends connecting friends, for those interested in lurking, please find another app.
• Why do you use ‘wingman’ and not ‘wingwoman’?
We knew this question would be asked. We absolutely believe in gender equality but we also needed to use a term people knew. We’re hoping you’ll bear with us and know we mean no disrespect when we use ‘wingman’ as a generic term.
Additionally we like how Wikipedia® defines ‘Wingman”...
Wingman is a role that a person may take when a friend needs support with approaching potential partners. In general, one person's wingman will help him or her avoid attention from undesirable prospective partners or attract desirable ones, or both.
• Why is it called the Field?
We needed a name for the group of potential matches a dater could select from, and in keeping with our ‘F’ theme (Friend, Field, Favorite), field came to mind, like a magnetic field of attraction.
• What’s the orange about?
The orange is a visual for how compatible a dater and candidate are based on profile information - the fuller the juice in the orange, the more compatible based on our algorithms. But why an orange? In Spanish, there’s a phrase ‘mi media naranja’ - my half orange; used to describe one’s other half, perfect match, soulmate.
• Can I be a Dater and a Wingman?
Yes! That’s a fun and awesome thing about DMF, daters get to play matchmaker for other single friends, as well as date. When you register as a dater on DMF, you’re automatically set-up to be a wingman.
• Do you sell my information to advertisers or third-parties?
USING THE APP
• How do I connect to friends?
To find and connect to friends click on the Friends icon, then click on the ‘add friend’ icon in the upper right corner. You can connect to friends already on DMF or invite a friend to join.
– To search for people already using DMF, select ‘Add your friends.’
– To invite friends to join, select ‘Invite your contacts.’ Once a friend has accepted your friend request you’ll see them listed in your friends list with a note that they want to be your friend. Click on their name to accept the request.
• How many friends can I connect to on DMF?
You can connect with as many friends as you’d like. Have five single friends, rep them all on DMF. You can also have non-dating friends in your DMF friends list. You’ll know who is and isn’t a ‘dater’ when you look on the Friends tab. Just look for “is a dater” under the name of those friends who are available to rep.
• How do I favorite a candidate for my friend?
Go to your friends list and click on the dater’s name. Once on your friend’s profile page you’ll see two icons, one for their field, one for their favorites. Go to their field and click on the star for any candidate you want to favorite. This action will automatically move that candidate to the favorites list for the dater and their other wingmen to see.
• How do I start talking to wingmen on the other side?
Yay! Time to chat up your friend! You have two options to start chatting with the other side:
1) You initiate the chat.
First, the candidate will need to be in your friend’s favorite list if they aren’t already. If you’re in the field you can click the star to put any candidate into your friend’s favorite list. You can also go to the favorites tab and see who was previously favorited by the dater or their friends. Ok, so now you’re in your friend’s favorite list, click on a profile picture for the candidate of interest. Once on their profile page, you’ll see a button that says, “Connect to Wingmen”. Click the button and the candidate’s wingmen will now see they have a chat they can join in their chat tab. To access this chat at anytime, click on the Chat icon and you’ll see it listed.
Note: If the candidate has yet to add a friend to rep them, you’ll get a message stating the chat can’t start yet. If so, check back on that dater soon and in the meantime strike up a conversation with another one of your friend’s favorites.
2) You join a chat that the other side has started.
On the chat tab there’s a section for ‘Join Chats’. These are chats initiated by the other side. Click on the chat of interest to start talking to the candidate’s wingmen. Once you’ve joined the chat it will be moved to your ‘Wingmen-to-Wingmen’ area on your chat tab.
• I’m looking at my friend’s favorites and I see a button that says “Join the chat” - what’s that about?
If you see ‘Join the chat’ on a favorite’s profile page that means a wingman from your side or their side has already kicked off a chat about the daters. Time to join the conversation and make some matches! To access that chat at anytime, click on the Chat icon and you’ll see it listed. Chats need at least one wingman from each side, but it’s not limited to 1-on-1. You can have multiple wingmen from each side in a chat.
• Where do I find my chats?
Click on the Chats icon to see the list of all your chat options: dater, wingmen, friend and joinable chats.
• How do I connect the daters?
Yay! Time to connect the daters! Here’s how to do it...From within the wingmen-to-wingmen chat you’ll see a winged-heart icon in the upper right corner. Click on the heart and a confirmation box will appear asking if you’re ready to ‘close the deal.’ Click ‘yes’ and the daters get to meet. They’ll get a notification that their friends found a match and they’ll have a new chat in their dater-to-dater chat section.
